Week Three

Cuban Missile Crisis
Cuba had Soviet missiles placed dangerously near the American mainland, and when Kennedy asked to remove them, Khrushchev agreed to take away the missiles, as long as the Americans would not attack Cuba. The removal of the missiles weakened the Cuban economy and was relying on Soviet power.

MAD
Stands for Mutual Assured Destruction. It is the idea of the attacker and the defender being annihilated by the use of high yield weapons in warfare.

Vietnam War
This is when Vietnam, and other non-Communist countries fought against Russia and other Communist countries to destroy Communism, and preserve Democracy

Détente
A term used to describe the uprising of a war due to war tensions. This is because of the signing of the SALT treaties.

SALT Negotiations
strategic arms limitation talks - Russia and the US spoke about how they will disarm weapons

Iranian Revolution
The overthrowing of an Islamic leader to a Iranian republic with the help of the US

USSR invades Afghanistan
The Soviets invade Afghanistan to make it a socialist country.

  1. Each of the topics should have 4-6 sentences about what each is, why is happened, and how it is significant to the Cold War.

    These posts are lacking the depth and quality this assignment requires
